Mt. Gox Creditors Get Extra Time to Select Repayment Method

• Mt. Gox creditors now have until Mar. 10, 2023 to decide on which repayment method they want to be paid in and register their payee information.
• The deadline for the base repayment, early lump-sump repayment and intermediate repayment was also moved from July 31 to Sept. 30.
• Those who have already completed the process don’t need to perform it again.

Mt. Gox creditors now have an additional three months to decide on which repayment method they would like to be paid in and register their payee information at the defunct crypto exchange. In an announcement dated Jan. 6, Mt. Gox trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi stated that the previously announced deadline for repayment selection which was on Jan. 10, has now been moved to Mar. 10 citing the „progress by rehabilitation creditors“ in the selection and registration as a reason for the change in deadline.

The announcement also urged creditors to complete the necessary steps before the new deadline and clarified that those who have already completed the process don’t need to perform it again. Furthermore, the update asked those who already completed the process to abstain from making any revisions to registration to make the confirmation process more smooth.

In addition to the change of the selection and registration deadline, the trustee also announced that the deadline for the base repayment, early lump-sump repayment and intermediate repayment was moved from July 31 to Sept. 30. This means that creditors who have registered by the Mar. 10 deadline will receive their repayments by Sept. 30.

The announcement also wrote that the rehabilitation creditors who fail to complete the selection and registration within the new deadline will not be able to receive their repayments or in some cases might have to bring documents to the exchange’s head office to receive their repayments in Japanese Yen.

Therefore, Mt. Gox creditors now have until Mar. 10, 2023 to decide on which repayment method they want to be paid in and register their payee information. Those who have already completed the process don’t need to perform it again and should abstain from making any revisions to registration to make the confirmation process more smooth. Finally, the deadline for the base repayment, early lump-sump repayment and intermediate repayment was also moved from July 31 to Sept. 30.
